Rock Candy
We soaked bbq skewers in water then rolled it sugar and then let dry.
This is what the larger crystals grew on .They are called seed crystals.
We made a supersaturated solution by first heating the sugar solution and then let it cool. A supersaturated solution has more sugar than water. 3 cups of sugar and one cup of water.
Then we left it to evaporate. Over time the water will evaporate slowly from the solution. As the water evaporates the solution becomes more saturated and sugar molecules will keep coming out of the solution and collect on the seed crystals.
It was hard to wait for the cryistal to grow.
It was easy to make the solution for the crystals.
Maybe next time I could do is find out how to grow them faster.
Kia ora Tait, I enjoyed seeing how you grew crystals and the way you wrote up the steps you went through. I also like the way you included photos, documenting the process and how you reflected on your learning. Keep up the great effort Tait! Mā te wa, Ms Peters.
